Pros and Cons of Using Floss AC Filters for your AC System

KatieAir ConditioningJuly 28, 2015

When it comes to filtration, only the best will do. After all, when you’re making good use of your air conditioning system you want to be sure that the air coming out of your vents is as free from particles and contaminants as possible; this is especially true, too, for people with respiratory ailments. That’s where a good quality filter comes in. And for many home and business owners, this means Glasfloss AC Filters.

For nearly 80 years, GlasFloss has been manufacturing filters for air conditioning systems – in fact, they revolutionized the industry when it came to producing filters for custom-designed systems. Still, just because a business has been around for many years doesn’t necessarily mean they’re the best, does it? Is a GlaFloss ac filter right for your AC unit? What are the pros and cons of purchasing these filters for your own home or office?

The Breakdown

  • Versatility. Glasfloss produces filters of all varieties, from basic disposable panel filters to pleated filters to filters which fit into heavy-duty metal frames, and all makes in between it would seem. This makes them perfect for just about any environment.
  • Filtering ability. No matter the level of filtration you need, you’re bound to find the perfect fit. Glasfloss filters are rated according to their Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, or MERV, which ranges on a scale from 1 to 16. Rigid cell filters, for instance, are normally used in commercial and industrial environments and as such are available at the higher end of the MERV rating scale. Others such as the mini-pleat filters are available in MERV ratings ranging from 11 to 16, which allows customers to customize their purchase even more.
  • Durability. This is where some potential customers may balk, for according to the company a GlasFloss filter should be changed every 2-3 months depending upon the amount of usage and the quality of air being circulated through the system. It’s possible that many home and business owners wouldn’t want to be bothered with remembering to change a filter four to six times a year.
  • Price. You get what you pay for, right? And Glasfloss ac filters aren’t cheaply made, nor do they perform poorly. So it stands to reason, then, that they are not inexpensive. Pair this with the fact that they need to be replaced several times a year, and you’re looking at a fairly hefty price tag when all is said and done.

It’s clear that Glasfloss ac filters are a cut above the average both in performance and price; however, for people with respiratory concerns or those living in areas with poor air quality, this high performance is surely worth the cost. It’s up to the customer, then, to determine whether this is the right investment for them.
